Hi family! As you probably know because of my Instagram pictures, I spent a week in this amazing country called Turkey. I went to Istanbul and Cappadocia. The "must" when in Cappadocia is to stay in one of the hundreds of cave hotels that you can find all around.
it is a unique experience that to be honest, I don´t think you can experience anywhere else. The problem comes when you open up Tripadvisor and you find yourself lost in a sea of options to choose from.
To make it a little bit easier, I will tell you my experience in the Hezen Cave Hotel. (SPOILER ALERT: It was awesome!)
At the beginning, honestly, We were hesitating a little bit because it is not located in Goreme, and this seems to be the hub of Cappadocia. But booking the Hezen was the best decision we could have ever made.
The hotel has amazing views to the Ortahisar Castle and all the little terraces and gardens in the hotel are orientated towards it. You will enjoy magical sunsets with a glass of wine, tea or a drink (look at our pictures). There is nothing better after a long day walking and doing tours than enjoying one of the cozy terraces. Trust me.
Now that I am talking about wine and drinks, something remarkable about this hotel is that they have something that I call "Honesty Bar". So what is it Pedro? It is a space close to the restaurant where you can basically serve yourself drinks from the bar 24 hours and then when checkin out, you will just tell reception what you have consumed during your stay. You can fine beer, wine, hard alcohol, sodas, water, juices...plus complimentary tea and coffee. This is a way of saying "we trust our customers" Liked it a lot.
The service is probably the most important part in a hotel. You can have a beautiful room or the hotel can be located in the middle of everything BUT if for some reason the service is bad or staff is not very nice it can ruin the whole experience. In our case, the service was just excellent. Since we stepped in until we stepped out of the hotel.
At the check in, Mehmet likes to do a little bit of networking. So you seat with him (or whoever check you in) for around 15-20 minutes to get to know each other a little bit and he will explain you everything you can do in the area and give you amazing advises. But most important, they do not try to force your or sell you anything. They will advise you so that you have the best experience possible during your stay. And trust me, they know better than we do, and better than travel guides or blogs you may have read.
The rest of the staff were really really kind. I have never said this in a review but you could see that they are all really nice and kind people. They were a clear example of professionalism. During the breakfast, the supervisors (or managers dont know exactly) were coming to each table personally to ask you about your plans for the day and to ask you how it went the day before. A small detail that I appreciated a lot because you cant see it often.
What about eating and the most importan meal of the day? The breakfast!
The breakfast was diverse, you could make yourself a nice and typical Turkish breakfast with a lot of different varieties of cheese, olives, and their special Turkish scrambled eggs, Menemen. Delicious. The they provide as well a good assortment of jams, bread, natural and fresh orange juice, tea, coffee..Everything above the standard quality. I have to say that we are veery good not only here but in the whole country. Nicely done Turkey!
The rooms get eclipsed a little bit by everything else but they are nice, spacious and all the amenities you can expect from a cave hotel. As I said in the beginning of the post, staying in a cave room is something very particular and something you should not miss when in Cappadocia.
Again, my biggest Thank to the Hezen Team for making my stay as pleasant as I could have ever imagined. If you are still wondering where to sleep in Cappadocia, this might be the place your are looking for. Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.
